VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
Pole. Dry bean. The dry beans have a smooth and creamy texture, and a sweet, nutty flavor. The seeds are large and oval, and are a cranberry type. The slightly curved, flat pods are light green and develop a light pink pattern which becomes more pronounced in the sun. Typically, each pod contains 4 seeds. The plants have light green leaves and pink flowers with a central blotch. This variety is from the family of Don Padley of Baraboo, Wisconsin. At the time Don donated the bean to SSE circa the early 1990s, it reportedly had been grown in the family for 175 years and was brought from Alsace-Lorraine, France. SSE Accession # 103649
