FRUITS-BERRIES-NUTS / HUCKLEBERRY
Compact, upright, bush-type plants are 2-3' tall and vigorous. Can be difficult to germinate. Productive plants with 5-7 fruits per cluster. Uniform berries, slightly smaller than a sunberry. Flavor is of a watered-down blueberry and lacks bitterness. Grown by Timothy Tuck in 2024 and 2025 for the Collection Documentation Project; Timothy commented they have grown both the Garden Huckleberry and Sunberry, and they like Mrs. B's Nonbitter the best of the three. In 2025, Timothy said the variety self-seeded pretty good, but they did see some pest damage. Donated to SSE circa 2004 by the late Suzanne Ashworth (CA AS S) who received the variety from Jos. Guarrera-Torre (CA GU J) circa 1982. Ashworth recommended cooking the fruits with sugar or honey to make pie or jam.
