Hartman's Giant Amaranth

Naturalizes, 6-8' stalks fall over while flowering (in wet clay soil) and need staking, Shiny black seed ripening over several weeks, very easy to shake from dry flowers into a bucket beneath (without much fluff), bright red stem and flowers. Seed edibility for humans not tested but the mourning doves flock to it in October. Very decorative, and young leaves are edible. Volunteers all over. Retains some color until November. 2026 seed..
