Solanum aetheopicum. Ethiopian eggplant, aka tomato fruited eggplant. Fruit are egg shaped (and sized) and light green when ready for table use, turning a lipstick red color at seed maturity. White flesh. Market mature fruit measure 2.1-2.8" long, 1.5-1.9" wide, and weigh 1.0-1.6oz. Fruit are pendant and are either born singly or in pairs. Tall plants with slender stems, highly branched all along the stem, but especially at the base. Some spines. Plants measure 3.7-4.3' tall. Plants require more space than most Solanum melongena types. Pubescent, green leaves. Fruit easy to harvest. Can be planted as an ornamental or food crop. Mid season maturity. Highly productive when grown at Heritage Farm in 2018.
