Early, prolific, pickling cucumber. Fruit are dark green at the stem end with green speckling towards the blossom end. Best picked when 5" long or smaller. Black spines. Moderate ribbing. Good flavor, moderately sweet, a little bitter, crisp texture. Seed mature fruit reach 8-9" long, 3-3.5" wide and are solid brown-orange. Plants are highly vining. Matches Early Russian variety in Fearing Burr's Field and Garden Vegetables of America. Acquired by SSE from the De Giorgi Seed Company (CV Deg). A variety by this name was described by American horticulturist Fearing Burr, Jr. in his 1863 publication “Field and Garden Vegetables of North America.” SSE Accession # 109189
