VEGETABLES / RUTABAGA
A staff favorite for taste in 2014. Raw roots are crunchy, juicy, sweet, but have a spicy brassica-like flavor. Cooked roots are creamy, juicy, firm, and slightly sweet. Yellow roots with purple coloring around the top. Roots are largely above the soil and range in shape from elliptic to round. Roots 4.5-6" long, 2.2-3.65" wide, and weigh 5-20oz. Leaves are green with purple or light green midveins. Plants 20-36.5" in diameter and 7-18" tall. Uniform planting. This accession was previously distributed by SSE incorrectly as a turnip, but botanically, it is a rutabaga. SSE Accession # 127647
