VEGETABLES / PEPPER
HOT
Capsicum baccatum. Medium-hot (hotter than a jalapeno but not as hot as a habanero), with a distinctive lemony flavor. It has conical fruits about 2-3 inches long that ripen to bright yellow, sometimes with a purple blush. The fruits start out sticking straight up and then droop down as they grow. The plants bush out a lot, especially after surviving multiple years in my South Texas garden (with frost protection). I love the flavor and mostly use them to make a fermented hot sauce unlike anything at the store. I also like to dry them and grind them into pepper flakes.
