Received this seed from Emma Rieke, a German woman, 20 years ago. I sow it every year in the cold frame in early September and it grows all winter with a sleeping bag thrown over the glass when the temp gets intensely cold. Makes a head when you thin the seedlings, soft leaves like in a butterhead with red tinge on the top of the leaf.
