Bush, dry bean. Traditionally used for baked beans. Large, plump, oval seeds have heavy, dark maroon mottling over a tan base. Robust flavor. Pods 4-6" long; 0.6" wide; dark green; straight; flat. Some pods develop faint red stripes at maturity. 4-5 seeds per pod. Plants reach up to 15". Light pink flowers. Medium productivity. Early maturing. Donated to SSE by Leigh Hurley (VT PI L). Leigh has grown this variety since 1986 when she received seeds from Pat and Duane Wiley of nearby Wheelock, Vermont. It is an heirloom within Pat’s family, having been grown by Pat’s mother, Vera (Johnson) Roy and Pat’s grandparents, Carl and Emma Johnson. SSE Accession # 131780
