VEGETABLES / SQUASH
C.-MAXIMA
Organic Listing
This heirloom variety produces huge fruits that mature to a dark orange/red color. The thick flesh is a rich orange color with a sweet, rich flavor. The fruits can be massive. Our largest weighed 42 pounds this year, with several others nearly as big. The plants reach out aggressively, so it can take up a lot of space. Also known as Buffalo Creek squash, since western NY is where the Iroquois grew it before it became widespread among the white settlers in the 1800s. It has great flavor and is sure to impress the grandkids, if you have the space to grow it.
