Melothria Pendula

American Mouse Melon, aka "Creeping Cucumber." Very similar to M. Scabra, but fruits are rounder, less elongated, and less tart. When very ripe they turn soft and deep solid green, and are no longer edible. Native to MO, OK, TX, and AR. Known as Meloncito in parts of TX. This selection, from Gainesville, MO, is larger than most of the wild ones; has been picked as substitute for olives during Depression and WWII.
