FRUITS-BERRIES-NUTS / APPLE
Medium-sized, round to round-conic fruit with yellow-green skin flushed and striped with bright red on the sun-exposed side and often covered in a light russet. Excellent for fresh eating and drying. Trees are hardy, vigorous, and upright. Ripens mid-fall. Westfield SNF is one of New England's classic early apples. This apple is recorded as originating near Westfield, Massachusetts in 1796, but likely was grown in that area for years before. A.J. Downing called it "a first-rate fruit," and in 1846 the New York State Agricultural Society rated it among the best apples for New York orchards.
