VEGETABLES / LIMA-BEAN
BUSH
Bush lima. Small, white seeds are hard seeded, so need to be nicked before soaking. When eaten as a dry bean, they are very creamy and have an earthy flavor. As a baby lima, they taste more like a bean than a lima. The plants have small pods, 2" long, that contain 3-4 seeds. Mid season maturing. This accession matches the description of Dixie Butterpea listed in Hastings' Seeds Spring 1946. Donated to SSE in 1981 by John Withee of the Wanigan Associates. Withee acquired this variety from Parks Seed Company in the 1970s, who offered it in their catalog at least as early as 1966. However, a variety by this name was first made commercially available in 1940 by Hastings’ seed, who claimed its development.
