VEGETABLES / LIMA-BEAN
POLE
Pole lima. Vigorous climber. Pods slightly curved with long beak. Pods 3-4" long and 0.9-1.3" wide. Medium sized seeds white with red mottling. 3-4 seeds per pod. Dry pods shattering type. Moderate productivity and late maturing when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Dry beans are large and meaty with a standard lima bean flavor. Robert Wood (KS WO R) donated this variety to SSE, which he obtained from Barbara Lund (OH LU B) of Blue Creek, Ohio. Barbara first offered the lima in the 1983 SSE Yearbook Exchange and said that she acquired it locally in the early 1980s. Barbara lived about 10 miles from the Ohio River and these limas were supposedly grown by people living on boats on the river who gardened on the shore.
