Bountiful

Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. It is unknown how Withee acquired this accession. Withee described this variety as having been in trade since 1898. A variety by the name New Green Bush Bean No. 1 was introduced by Peter Henderson’s & Co in 1898 and a contest was held to name the variety. Peter Henderson & Co announced, in their 1899 catalog, the first prize winner was Abel Steele of Ontario and the bean was to be called Bountiful. SSE Accession # 101110
