Betsy's Italian Flat

Romano. Long, wide, flat green beans develop a purple suture. Pods measure 6-10" long and average 0.8" wide. Commonly 7 seeds per pod. Strongly climbing plants lack pigmentation. White flowers. Early maturing and highly productive when grown at Heritage Farm in 2025. Betsy Katzelnick of Rochester, Minnesota started growing this variety of bean in 1991 while living in Madison, Wisconsin. She likely purchased them in Madison, but doesn't recall where. She has always just called them her 'Italian Flat' beans. Betsy notes they are reliable and productive saying, "They come up fast and grow like mad." Betsy shared this variety with SSE in 2017 and loves to fry the green beans in olive oil and sprinkle with balsamic vinegar.
