VEGETABLES / BEAN
UNSORTED-BEANS
This heirloom variety was passed down through Steven Oehlenschlager's maternal side of the family. Steven's mother remembered the beans growing when she was a child in Minnesota circa 1913. However the family story before that is unclear. His mom believed her father brought the seeds from Princeton, Minnesota in the 1880s, while Steven's brother thought the beans came from Bohemia in the 1880s when their grandmother's family immigrated to Staples, MN. Regardless, it was a favorite used by the family as a shelling bean and a dried bean. Steven Oehlenschlager of Alexandria, MN, donated the variety to SSE in 2000.
