Miriam Dixon of Apison, Tennessee, began stewarding this variety in 2001 from seed she got from her parents, Kenneth Pell and Jimmie (McDowell) Pell of Sylvania, Alabama. Kenneth and Jimmie obtained their seed from Kenneth’s older brother, James Pell (1929-2010), and his wife, Clara (Crowe) Pell (1932-2002), of Mentone, Alabama, in 1971. The family has grown the variety in central Michigan, northeast Alabama, and southeast Tennessee. Miriam donated this bean variety to SSE in 2022.
