This tomato arrived at SSE in 2019 through John Coykendall of Knoxville, Tennessee. The original note accompanying the seed sample states that “Hazel Scott” was maintained in Arkansas for approximately 80 years before being brought back to East Tennessee to Coykendall by a Blackberry Farm employee. Later reporting in The Business Times on 8/7/2025 identifies the name as referring to a woman named Hazel from Scott, Arkansas, who shared seed from her family’s tomato with the parents of Blackberry Farm executive chef Cassidee Dabney in 2013.
