VEGETABLES / CORN
UNSORTED-CORN
This variety originates from amateur corn-breeder Ernest Strubbe (b. 1915, d. 1986) of Alberta, Minnesota. SSE likely acquired it in the 1990s from a now unknown donor. Ernest's interest in breeding began in 1929 and over the decades, he developed many selections of vibrantly-colored corn - every color was on display in Ernest's home. Ernest did not specifically comment on how he created ‘Pheasant,’ but generally speaking, many of his varieties were developed over decades of selection. SSE co-founder Kent Whealy, also described Ernest as a wildlife artist, photographer, ornithologist, and conservationist.
