DENT
Melissa DeSa of Gainesville, Florida, donated this white dent corn after helping lead a multi-year effort to recover it from near loss using older seed associated with Dudley Farm in Newberry, Florida. The available record clearly links the variety to the farm’s later history, including seed saved from the farm’s corn crib and later stewardship by Hubert Davis, Sally Morrison, and others. The farm’s conversion into Dudley Farm Historic State Park helped keep the corn in cultivation after the property had largely ceased to function as a family production unit. Earlier provenance remains uncertain, and current documentation does not establish when the variety first entered Dudley Farm’s seed stock. The seed donated to Seed Savers Exchange comes from the 2025 harvest.
