VEGETABLES / TOMATO
UNSORTED-TOMATOES
Late season maturing. This tomato variety has been passed down in Deanna and Scott Spraker’s (Donors & Seed Source) family of Rural Retreat, Wythe County, Virginia, for over a century. Deanna and Scott began their stewardship of this variety in 2018 from seed they got from Scott’s granduncle Garnett Leon “Arno” Cregger (1949-2019) who got it from his father Garnett Edward “Poage” Cregger (1925-2017). Poage got his seed from his parents Arthur Maiden Cregger (1896-1939) and Bircha Blessing (1897-1971) who got it from Bircha’s parents Stephen S. Blessing (1876-1916) and Lillie Caroline Sharitz (1873-1921) presumably as a wedding gift in 1916. Deanna and Scott Spraker’s ancestors have been in living in Wythe County, VA, since the mid-18th century. The Sprakers donated this variety to SSE in 2021.
