Black Eyebrow

Non-shattering pods are brown at maturity. Pods have 2-3 and sometimes 4 seeds. Seeds are brown with black coloring around the eye. Somewhat hard seeded. Determinate plants grow 18-30 inches tall. Not early or productive when grown in 2016 at Heritage Farm. Seeds have a crunchy texture. Likely good for 'soynuts'. This accession matches descriptions of Black Eyebrow listed in Tait's Thorobred Seeds, 1930. A variety by this name has been exchanged in the SSE Yearbook Exchange for at least 20 years. A variety by this name is mentioned in a 1918 USDA Syllabus 35 publication titled "Illustrated Lecture on Soy Beans" by W.J. Morse and H.B. Hendrick. SSE Accession # 119383
