Emmy

Orange globe tomato. Indeterminate growth habit. Medium-sized, round, uniform fruit. Moderately recessed stem end. Severe radial cracking on half of fruit. Fruit born in bunches of up to five. Flower stigmas even with stamens. Regular leaves. Fruit measure 2-2.8" long by 2.3-3.1" wide and weigh 3-7oz. Standard flavor; slightly sweet; low acid; firm texture; juicy; somewhat thick skin. Mid-season maturing. Average productivity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Acquired by SSE from the Bloombergs. They received the variety in 1979 in Rosenheim, Germany from a friend named Emmy who had grown the variety in her homeland of Transylvania since before 1945. When Emmy was expelled from Transylvania at the end of WWII, she took a tomato from her garden as she fled to Germany. SSE Accession # 127379
