RED
This is a red globe tomato, many with green shoulder. This variety is not terribly uniform. Some fruit has cat face, some have concentric cracking, some are rounder, and some have stronger ribbing. They grow with only 1 fruit per infructescence. The pedicel scar is wide. Fruit is roughly 4" wide, 2-2.5" long, and 13-15 oz. The plants are indeterminate with sparse, potato leaf foliage. They are about 4ft tall. It is mid to late season maturing. The productivity is rather low. This tomato is not terribly sweet or acidic. Given to SSE by Thomas Niple (OH NI T) who acquired the variety in 1981 from a friend in Logan, OH. That friend obtained it from Clarence Gumm of Chillicothe, OH whose father received the tomato from a Mr. Straw of West Virginia. Originally brought to the U.S. from Germany by Mr. Straw circa WWI.
