VEGETABLES / MELON
Legendary melon created from a 12-way cross. A squash and papaya pollen made in San Diego county in the 1950's by a horticultural experimenter from Sweden. Unusually high in potassium, casaba-like, smooth, slightly ribbed to ribless light yellowish-orange skin, orange-yellow flesh. Very sweet distinctive memorable flavor like crystallized sunshine. I started growing this melon in the mid 1980's from seed I got from Dr. Jesse Schwartz (Living Tree Center). This variety matures at 90-95 days and does best when spaced 10 to 12 ft apart. Produces large quantity of 15 to 24 lb melons. Seed selection based on Dr. J's specs and makes some of the best peach-melon preserves. I include growing info and recipe with requests.
