Strongly climbing pole bean. Good wax bean flavor; tender; slightly stringy when older. Easy to shell. Immature green pods turn pale yellow and develop a striking dark pink blush pattern. Pods are straight; highly constricted; with a strong suture string. Downy pods. Pods measure 3.3-4.8" long and 0.5-0.6" wide. White flowers. Pods contain 5-6 tan, shiny, oval seeds. Hard seeded. Mid season maturity. Highly productive. Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. John received this variety from Silas Gilliam of Virginia in the late 1970s. Silas got this bean from Wanda Gray who had gotten her beans from her father, Duke Osborne. SSE Accession # 101511
