Gransrova (Border Turnip)

Roots cylindrical, either straight or curved, white with green or purple shoulders, 3-4" long and 1.5" wide, averaging a little over 3 oz. in weight, with no root hairs and the top 2" exposed above the ground. Plants 20" wide. Leaves dark green, lyrate, erect, 16" long, hairy on both sides, the petioles light green and midveins white. Grown by Gene Forster in 2020 for the Collection Documentation Project; he reported that the roots are crunchy, with the raw roots having a spicy taste and the cooked roots sweet. Peter Erdlandsson (SWED ER P) introduced this variety into the Exchange in 2001. Erdlandsson obtained this variety from Sesam and stated that it's a landrace turnip from the Swedish-Norwegian border, found in Varmland 1991 by Sesam. SSE Accession # 127704
