Roman Holiday

VEGETABLES / TOMATO
OTHER-COLORED
Roman Holiday is a novel plum tomato with yellow on yellow zigzag-striped skin. Its light yellow flesh is meaty and excellent when processed in sauces and soups. Averages 5 1/2 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide; weighs 10 ounces. Plant is indeterminate in habit, with droopy foliage, and very high yield. This is another tomato under the influence of Tom Wagner's Banana Legs. Roman Holiday is a sport of Speckled Roman (Antique Roman x Banana Legs) that was discovered at Heritage Farm in Decorah, Iowa, in 2003, and sent to me for trial by Aaron Whaley. It features in my 2008 book, "The Heirloom Tomato: From Garden to Table." I named it in honor of its lineage and because "holiday" connotes "sport." Plus it's a fun reference to the delightful 1953 movie of the same name.
