Pennsylvania 1760. The original tree was found in the outskirts of Philadelphia, by Dutch Jacobs, a sportsman, who kept the location of the tree a secret for many years. Mr. Seckel later acquired the property and introduced the pear before 1817. The fruit is small 2" H x 1 1/2" W grows in clusters but can grow larger if thinned. Skin is dull red brown on yellow. Sweet, aromatic spicy, very juicy, although some years can be less sweet and flavorful depending on the weather. Much of the flavor found in the skin. Fruit somewhat susceptible to scab in heat and humidity. Ripens poorly when picked too early, susceptible to core breakdown if picked over ripe. Tree natural semi-dwarf, grows slowly, bears early, good fire blight resistance. Ripens in Sept. Good for desert and canning. 3"to 4" scions. 4 pieces.
