VEGETABLES / PEPPER
HOT
C. annuum. Hot pepper. Elongate fruits with a pointed blossom end and smooth skin. Peppers mature from green to deep purple-black and finally to red. Fruits horizontal to erect. Mature fruits average 3" long, 0.4" wide, and weigh 0.13oz. Thin-walled and moderately seedy. Green leaves and striated stems are very densely pubescent. Plants average 2.5-3' tall and are densely branched. White flowers. Quite hot! Tangy, fruity, and juicy. Very vigorous and productive when grown in 2023 at Heritage Farm. Late-season maturing. In 2014, Norma Ortiz of Redway, California, met a woman from Oaxaca, Mexico, named Angelica. Angelica with her mother migrated to the United States during the 1970s. Norma and Angelica both shared a passion for gardening and soon became good friends. Angelica and her mother brought with them seeds from a hot pepper variety that had been in their family for generations. Angelica gifted Norma some seeds from her beloved pepper, which Norma has grown and saved seed from ever since. Norma, an avid gardener for over four decades, says she hadn’t seen this “delicious, but hot” variety before. Norma donated this hot pepper variety to SSE in 2020. SSE Accession # 133773
