Pole bean with a strong twining tendency. Dark pink flowers. Green immature pods develop dark purple dashes and stripes very early. Pods yellow as they mature and retain dark purple stripes. Straight, flat pods have long beaks. Mature pods average 6" long by 0.6" wide. Weak suture string. Edible as snap bean but best used as dry bean. Low productivity in 2012 drought year at Heritage Farm. Leathery dry pods contain 1-6 seeds per pod. Large, elongated kidney-shaped bean with purple mottling and stripes. Dry beans have standard flavor with a thick skin and grainy texture. Mid-season maturing. Given to SSE by John Coykendall (TN CO J). He received the beans from Bob Wildfong (ONT WI B) who indicated the variety is useful as a snap or dry bean. Originally from Waterloo, Ontario and said to be a Mennonite heirloom.
