Uniform, dark red garden beet. Round to slightly elliptic. Flesh is red with moderately thick pink rings. Strong, earthy flavor that is also sweet. Roots measure 2.5-3.5 inches in diameter, 2.5-4 inches long, and weigh between 4.5-10.5 oz.. Skin is purple and rough. Leaves are green with purple petioles. This accession matches descriptions of Early Blood Turnip found in Burpee's Farm annual from 1886, as well as many other catalogues. From Cornell University. SSE Accession # 106281
