Balsam

Camellia Flowered Mix. Impatiens balsamina. Edible annual. Pre-1870s heirloom. Beautiful green foliage with lovely abundant flowers along the stem. Multiple colors: pink, lavender, red, rose, white. Full sun to partial shade, prefer moist rich soil but will grow in sand or heavy clay. Seed capsules will spring open flinging seed a considerable distance. Cook young greens which are rich in calcium and vitamin C. Slightly spicy mustardish flavored cooked greens. Raw vegetation should not be consumed in large quantities.
