Red and Black Field Peas

Moderate climbing tendency. Violet flowers. Purple pigment on base and tips of petioles and tips of pods. Slightly curved, pendant pods, 7.5-10.5" long by 0.4" wide. 10-17 seeds per pod. Standard productivity. Solid black, rhomboid seeds with some subtle red mottling. Dry cowpeas have a pleasantly unique, slightly sweet flavor. Early maturing. Donated to SSE by John Coykendall (TN CO J). This variety is originally from Seldon Lang, a farmer in Washington Parish, LA for 70 years. SSE Accession # 108980
