FRUITS-BERRIES-NUTS / PEAR
Organic Listing
Scion wood. Please order during dormant season, be ready to graft when received. European style.
Excellent fresh eating/dessert pear. Fruit are medium to large, long-necked, light green with an occasional red blush in full sun. Variable in size and shape, tends to ripen fruit slowly over a long period (8 - 10 weeks or more!) in my area. Described as "... rated equal to Magness by many... sweet, spicy and very juicy, buttery, silky flesh with no grit." I agree they are delicious. Very late and long harvest; it is delightful to be able to pick pears into late October here in Zone 9. Exceptional storage, 3 months+.
USDA Zone 5-9, low chill (600 hours), midseason bloomer. Self fertile, but will set much more fruit with another Warren or mid-to-late bloom pollinizer.
Quite fireblight resistant, but not as much as other modern, super-resistant varieties. Worth it.
Discovered by Thomas O. Warren, of the North American Fruit Explorers (NAFEX), in Hattiesburg Mississippi, in 1976.
