VEGETABLES / LIMA-BEAN
POLE
Early maturing, pole lima, climbing 8-10". Pods slightly curved, 3" long with 3-4 seeds. Seeds should be white with a pink eye. Off-type seeds may crop up in some generations. These should be rogued. Moderately productive. Grown by Kaitlyn Chambers in 2021 for the Collection Documentation Project; she reported that the variety has light frost tolerance and "did well in clay soil with no irrigation." She rated it "excellent" overall. This variety was brought to Winn Parish, Louisiana from Mississippi by Abner Lafayette Martin sometime during or after the Civil War. His grandson, T. E. Martin of Winn Parish, later shared seeds with George Brewton, a friend who went on to steward the variety. George shared the variety with SSE lister Marcy Frantom (LA FR M) who donated the variety to SSE circa 2004. (Previously distributed by SSE under the misspelled name 'T. W. Martin Pink-Eyed Butterbean.') SSE Accession # 112799
