VEGETABLES / MUSTARD-GREENS
Leaf mustard with highly toothed, highly dissected leaves. Leaves green, long and narrow. Moderately pungent and slightly bitter. Pungency dissipates quickly. Best eaten cooked. Stiff hairs on leaves are irritating when eaten raw. Tends to bolt quickly in the spring at Heritage Farm. Brassica juncea. Donated to SSE by Lonnie Craft of Mississippi. The mustard was grown and saved by the Myers family for as long as Lonnie’s mother could remember, likely since about 1915. It was passed down from her uncle, Scott Myers of Forrest County, MS, who kept a beautiful garden and saved seed from only what he considered to be the very best. SSE Accession # 113914
