C.-MOSCHATA
Cucurbita moschata. Slow Food Ark of Taste variety. An old New England variety introduced to commerce in 1834 by Boston seedsman Charles H. Hovey and described in Fearing Burr's "The Field and Garden Vegetables of America". Some say it originated among the Haudenosaunee. The tan fruits reach 2 to 6 pounds, many having a curved neck but some not, and inside is a good quality, sweet orange flesh. A great keeper. I found it very well adapted to growing here in NY and it yielded about a bushel per hill for me.
