VEGETABLES / OKRA
Plants 6-7' tall. Non-pigmented. Long and slender, slightly curving, green pods. Prickly, curved pods have smooth ridges. Seed mature pods reach 8-9" long and 0.75-1" in diameter. Best eaten under 3" long. Sweet, subtle flavor. Late maturing but highly productive. Donated to SSE in 1992 by Janice Hodnett Faries. Grown by Janice's parents, J.T. & Edna Hodnett, near Rising Star, TX as early as the 1940s. Edna favored this variety because the pods are not as prickly as other varieties of okra.
