Dester

Single Image
VEGETABLES / TOMATO
PINK-PURPLE
Said to originally from Germany with the ancestors of Dr. Herbert Edgar Dester (1926-74) of Berne, Indiana. He was a devout Christian and a Mennonite missionary to India to proved medical missionary services. He shared the seed with his Amish housekeeper, Ann. Upon her relocation to Missouri, she raised the variety and shared it with a local farmer, Larry Pierce. Pierce submitted it to SSE. Large pink beefsteaks are oblate with smooth shoulders and outstanding sweet flavor. Very meaty flesh with small seed locules and very few seeds. When we have grown these, we seem to have a wide array of sizes (6-20 ounces), with fruits set later being smaller than those set first. Regular leaves, indeterminate. About 90 days to maturity after transplanting.
