VEGETABLES / SORGHUM
A beautiful broomcorn. Plants reach 8-9ft tall and commonly have 2-3 tillers. Panicles branches (brush) are 17-21' long and have dark purple pigmentation. Panicles are 15-19" long. Brown, medium-sized grains are fully covered with black glumes. ~2600-3200 seeds per panicle. Difficult to thresh. Early maturing. This variety was donated to SSE in the mid 1990s by Exchange lister Glenn Drowns (IA DR G) who acquired the broomcorn from Louise Bastable (MA BA L). Bastable received it in 1988 from another lister named Charles Voight (IL VO C) who originally got the variety from Mr. & Mrs. Louis Gyorkos of Essex, Illinois. This couple collected the seed while on a visit to Louis' brother who still lived in Hungary. SSE Accession # 119297
