Pole bean, best used at the snap stage. They have low stringiness and a good texture. Pods are green and slightly recurving. Pod length 4-6in. Pods contain between 6 and 8 seeds. Dry beans are medium white ovals. 5% hard seeded. This is a plain white bean with a texture like mashed potato. Productivity was low during the 2021 growout at Heritage Farm. This is a late maturing variety. Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. Withee received the variety in 1978 from Jim Johnson of Hartland, WI. Johnson stated the variety had been brought from Germany in 1840. SSE Accession # 101348
