Holmes' Royal Red

Garden radish. Bulbs are very crisp with excellent texture like a Honeycrisp apple; juicy; mild flavor with very little pungency. Pods are also edible when small; crisp, juicy, slightly sweet and moderately spicy. Bulbs are a vibrant red with white flesh; round shape. Bulbs are half buried in soil. Small green leaves with purple petioles; open growth habit (~67 degrees). Market mature bulbs average 1.3"x1.3" and weigh 0.7oz. High uniformity of bulb size; early maturity and prone to splitting when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Introduced in 1899 by the Holmes Seed Company of Canton, OH and promoted as an early-maturing variety. Previously distributed by SSE as 'Holmes Royal Red'. SSE Accession # 118752
