DRY-BUSH
Cate's Kidney is a bush bean best eaten dry, however it is fairly good as a snap bean. The dry beans are large and kidney shaped, with the color being anywhere between light brown and pink. Not hard seeded, this mild bean has a good texture. At the snap stage, is juicy and sweet, without being stringy. It has pink flowers and the green pods are relatively flat, wide, and long. Pod length 5.5-6.3in. Plant height 24in. It is mid season maturing. Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. John Withee described this variety as an "old family bean" that he received from Louis Young of New Hampshire. SSE Accession # 100986
