Mouse Bean

Also known as Hog Peanut. A wild plant that produces under ground seeds that are edible and collected to eat by native Americans. It is not a rare plant and is occasionally found growing as a weed in gardens. It has very long vines with a thin stem and small 3 part simple pointed leaves. Ir produces seeds above ground as well under ground. The under ground seeds are the ones that are used as food and are about the size of a large pea. I have a supply of the smaller above ground seed that can be used to start new plants and need to be scarified to promote germination. I collected my seeds from a neighbor's flower garden where Mouse Bean is spreading. It is an annual that will reseed itself from the underground seeds as well as from those produced above ground. I have only collected a few of the under ground seeds and haven't tried eating them.. Must Reoffer. See my profile for more details.
