VEGETABLES / TURNIP
Bicolor, flattened roots with purple tops and white bottoms. Very early maturing, as the name suggests. Roots 2-3 inches long, 3-4 inches wide at market maturity. Roots half-buried in the soil. White flesh. Standard flavor. This accession matches the description of Extra Early Purple Top Milan listed in Burpee's 1884 catalogue. Donated to SSE in the mid-1990s by Will Bonsall (ME BO W) who originally acquired it from the USDA. A variety by this name has been available in the U.S. seed trade since at least the 1880s.
