Early Wonder Smooth Leaf

Garden type. Leaves green with red vein and petiole. Root buried. Single, round roots with dark purple skin. Avg 2" long, 2" wide, 3oz. Flesh is purple with medium white rings. Good texture, sweet flavor that improves with cooking. Leaves bitter. Market mature roots in early July. Brix 7.5. This strain was developed by Agway, Inc at some point before 1971 and was selected for a smoother, refined root for fresh market use. Seed Savers Exchange acquired seeds from Agway in the mid 1980s.
