VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-POLE
Pole bean with a strong climbing tendency. White flowers. Straight, green pods develop a light red blush at maturity. Snap beans become tough at a relatively early age. Weak suture string present in flat pods. Mature pods average 4.7" long by 0.5" wide. Shelling (horticultural) beans have a full flavor with a thin skin and creamy texture. Easy to shell. Solid golden-brown, oval-shaped seeds. Standard dry bean flavor with a smooth texture. Bean holds its shape well during cooking. Late maturing. This variety was donated to SSE by John Coykendall (TN CO J) who received seeds from Irene Marsh of Grainger County, Tennessee. John says it's an old variety grown on farms in the Great Smoky Mountains before the formation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It was brought out of the mountains when a family was required to leave their farm during the development of the park. SSE Accession # 105737
