Syrup sorghum. Plants 9-11.5 feet tall with 0-3 basal branches. Panicles are semi-compact elliptic and highly exserted and 5.5-8 inches long. Small, reddish-brown seed. Mid season flowering when grown in 2016 at Heritage Farm. BRIX reading 15.1. Very sweet. Donated to SSE in 2004 by Butch Tindell (TX TI B). This variety was developed at the U.S. Sugar Crops Field Station in Meridian, MS and released in 1970. It's named in honor of the late General Sam Dale (1772-1841), a Federal scout, soldier, and first representative in the Mississippi Legislature from Lauderdale County. SSE Accession # 119308
